HUNTING A SHADOW

Chapter 9

When Cherene got back to her Head Quarters, there was a man waiting for her. He was sitting in a black chair in a dark room filled with shadows. He looked invisible; the only thing that made him stood out was his evil red eyes.

He looked up at Cherene, his face turned to a smile, even when he tried to be nice he still looked as evil as ever. He started to stand up. As he stood he was tall, he had black rags on. He looked old and tired. He had trouble breathing. He fell onto a table in front of him, Cherene ran to his aid, but he shouted he didn’t need any help and pushed her away.

When he got himself back together he looked back up to Cherene and started to talk. As he was talking the noise of his voice sent chills down Cherene’s back, even she didn’t feel comfortable in his presence.

He started talking about the things Cherene had taken from her victim’s house. He also asked if she had got her target and how she killed him. He was pleased with her progress and said that when he died he will pass down the weapon and his sense of death and evilness to her.

She was only 23 and she had already killed 13 people, all men. Most killed with cuts to the neck, others more gruesomely. She did this because she was betrayed. She wanted revenge. She was cheated on and then left to die by her ex boyfriend of 3 years.
She needed revenge. She hasn’t seen her ex for 2 years now and she’s killed in spite. She killed these men to stop more pain to other women. She hated men.

When Michael sat down again, he asked to see what Cherene was able to steal from the home of her latest victim. He showed him the blue vase and the 4 guns. He was again pleased with this and gave her a stone. It was green. It was a jade stone. It was one of his most prized possessions along with his weapon. She looked at this with delight and also confused. She asked why he has given her this and he replied back in a more gentle tone “This is my present to you, for the one year you’ve been with me you have made my life more different, and since I won’t be with you much longer I want you to know much you’ve changed me and how much I care for you”. As Cherene was listening to this she was thinking about the pain she had been given by this other man and she thought to herself, does he deserve my love or is he after me to hurt me.

He went up to her and kissed her on the cheek. She thought to herself again. And thought to herself that she needed to give love a go again. Cherene went up to Michael and tip toed up and kissed Michael on the lips. There was a long pause. And then there was noise.

There was a sudden bang the door. Then there was a long whoosh from the door. There was a figure in the doorway. Danny and Brian’s plan was going ahead, but it wasn’t Danny as planned, it was Mani. As Mani got closer Cherene remembered that she had guns in the bags that she took from Ben’s house.

Cherene reached for one of the guns on the bag. As Mani got closer Michael was staring at him. Mani and Michael made eye contact. Mani was stuck to the floor. He was hypnotized to the spot. Cherene had one of the guns in her hands and walked over to Mani. She raised the gun to his head and chanted some words to him over and over again. “Here we go, we need this, and you will end”.

He stared at her, scared. He made muffled noises from his mouth. He tried to talk but he was frozen. He was stiff. He started going white. His face was going numb. His hands were then going purple. As he went on longer he got colder and colder. The breath from his nose was cold as ice, it touched a wall next to him and it froze to the wall. He was screaming in pain in his muffled noise.

His fingers were getting more numb. His finger then burst due to the build up of blood in his fingers. Michael stared at Mani deeply and suddenly Mani’s mouth unfroze. For the next couple of minutes the room was filled with the screams and pain from Mani.

Cherene looked at Michael and stared at him. She looked at him lovingly. Michael took his eyes off Mani for a minute. Mani fell to the floor. Still stiff, he couldn’t move. He shook from the pain and the lack of heat in his body. Michael walked over to Cherene and whispered into her ear and said he loved her. Cherene said it back. Michael stared at Cherene more. And the more he stared at her the more his heart missed a beat.

He moved his eyes to Mani who was still laying on the floor in pain, listening to the horrific screams, Michael told Cherene to finish him off. Cherene nodded and walked over to Mani still carrying the gun in her hand. She got closer and kicked him in the ribs. He yelled. She picked him up onto his feet and threw him against a wall. She then grabbed the table behind her and kicked a table leg off using no force. She picked up the table leg and threw it with a lot of force at Mani who was propped up against the wall. The wooden table leg went straight through his chest and through the wall.

He was stuck and bleeding to death. There was no way out he was a dead man. Cherene raised the gun once more to Mani’s head. She wasn’t even shaking. She said the same words and pulled the trigger.

The bullet went through his forehead. There was a deep hole running through the whole way of his skull. His head was drooped down. He was lifeless. He was another victim of The Black Hood. Cherene turned round to see Michael while wiping the blood of her face and spitting the blood from her mouth.

Michael was lying on the floor. He was shaking furiously. Cherene ran over to his aid. This time Michael did not shout or push away from her. She went over and got onto her knees. She kissed him on the forehead and held his hands. They both said they loved each other. Cherene was confused and didn’t know what to do.

She kissed him on the lips again. There was a bright light coming from his mouth. It was as green as the jade stone Cherene was given. As the light shone Cherene got onto her feet in excitement. Michael stopped shaking and lay on the floor for a couple of seconds and got back onto his feet. He told Cherene about what had just happened. It was the same virus that Michael had in his body.

Except this wasn’t any normal virus. It made you inhuman. It gave you special characteristics. She didn’t care about this virus. She was only concerned about Michael. As she stared at him, the sun was going down. The shadows in the room were getting bigger and the darkness was getting thicker. The room went black and there was no noise.
